Why Sealing Basement Foundation Cracks Is Important

Why Sealing Basement Foundation Cracks Is Important
Overview

You stroll into your basement and find its carpet wet. A little scrutiny leads you to note that it is a crack in your basement’s foundation that is allowing water to seep through. What do you do? Waterproofing the whole basement using basement waterproofing products are going to cost you a fortune, and waterproofing contractors in Delhi NCR don’t offer their services cheap either. Fortunately for you, you don’t have to go through the trouble of waterproofing your whole basement.

Sealing Basement Cracks

There are two ways basement cracks can be sealed. One, a foundation crack injection, and two, exterior excavation and crack repair. Out of these foundation crack injection is easier to do, but cannot be done in a concrete block or cinderblock foundation.

Basically, crack injection involves the pressurized injection of resin into a foundation crack, the resin solidifies and fills the crack. Simple. There are construction chemical manufacturers in Delhi that manufacture the sealing resin required for crack injection.

Exterior excavation is a more complicated and requires a little more elbow grease. It is a destructive process but very effective. An elastic membrane is applied over the crack, which is somewhat like a ‘patch’ applied on holes in clothes. The bottom line is, water can no longer penetrate the foundation, resolving the leaking problem.

The best thing about these processes is that they are relatively cheap (crack injection is quite cheap, but exterior excavation is a little more costly, although still cheaper than basement waterproofing). Also crack injection can be done within two hours, while exterior excavation can take up to 2 weeks.
